Sara Stern investigates the space between spectator and performer, user and system, incorporating fiction, role-play, and role-reversal. Her work spans video installation, film, sculpture, performance, writing, and photography. Stern has exhibited and screened her work in the US, Austria, and Germany, at venues including Anthology Film Archives, New York; the Museum of the Moving Image, New York; MuseumsQuartier, Vienna; and the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Cambridge, MA. Awards include the 2016 Austrian American Short Film Festival award for Best Film in the category of Experimental and Conceptual, Harvard University Council Prize in Visual Arts, and the Henry Russell Shaw Post-Grad Travel Fellowship.
Stern received her MFA from Columbia University, and her BA from Harvard University.
She currently lives and works in New York.
