SAY WE CAN LOOK

Say We Can Look, 2020, HD video, color/sound, 2:43 min.

Through cut outs and rear projections, artworks and films from the ‘40s onward invade 2020 pre-pandemic New York City real estate listings. Yoko Ono’s eye in “Eyeblink (Fluxfilm no. 9)” (1966) looks down upon a soon-to-be renovated Chelsea loft’s living room. Jack Smith’s “Flaming Creatures” (1963) flickers through the walls of the bedroom. A balloon from Hans Haacke’s “Sphere in Oblique Air Jet” (1964/2011) flies through the city. Gordon Matta-Clark cuts “Day’s End” (1975) just outside the windows of an expensive Tribeca loft. A Mondrian and a Pollock from MoMA’s collection take a tumble in a washer/dryer in an apartment for rent in the museum’s luxury tower above.
